Brief description of the Rainbow Mountain Vinincunca:
The tour to the Mountain of Vinincunca or Rainbow Mountain takes place every day of the year. The reservation is made with a minimum of 3 days in advance.
Note: The best season to visit the Rainbow Mountain is between April to November.
Vinincunca or Winincunca also called Mountain of 7 colors or Rainbow Mountain with an altitude of 5200 m.a.s.l, is located in the way of the Ausangate Glacier Peak that is the fifth highest mountain of Peru, with 6372 m.a.s.l. in the Andes of Peru, Cusco region.
The Rainbow mountain is a magical place where there are ancient Quechua roads where ancient Quechuas swapped their products with people from the other Regions (4 Inca regions).
The colorations of the Rainbow mountain are due to the mineralogical composition that it has: the pink color is red clay, fangolitas (mud) and arilitas (sand). The whitish, the quartz’s sandstone and the marl, those rich in calcium carbonate. The red one made of claystone (iron) and the clays belonging to the upper tertiary. The green is due to the compound of phyllites and clays rich in ferro magnesian. The earthy brown is the product of the fanglomerate composed of rock with magnesium belonging to the Quaternary era. And the mustard yellow color for the sandstones rich in sulfur minerals.
Currently, the mountain of 7 colors is mostly busy, this is due to its landscape beauty, flora and fauna that it has in the route, and that can be visited in just 1 day, making the tourists recommend it and thanks to them this route becomes increasingly popular in the short time it has been enabled.
